And, remember, there is a giveaway at the end of the Sew Along! All the details are at the end of this post.

Let’s get sewing!

constructing the collar

Ensure the notches and centers are marked on your collar stand and collar pieces.

Grab both of your collar stand pieces and draw a line between the outer top and bottom notches.

Stitch a row of basting stitches at 1cm (3/8″) along the bottom of the uninterfaced collar stand piece.

Use the stitchline as a guide and press the seam allowance towards the wrong side of the collar stand piece.

With right sides facing, align and pin the two collar pieces together. Stitch at 1cm (3/8″) around the sides and top, leaving the bottom notched edge open.

Trim the corners and grade the seams to reduce bulk when it is turned inside out.

Turn the collar right sides out and press.

Baste stitch along the bottom hem of the collar. When basting I use a stitch length of 4 on my machine.

Lay your collar with the uninterfaced piece facing up. Lay the interfaced collar stand piece over it, right sides together. Match the center back notches and ensure that the collar edges align with th outer notch lines you drew in the first step.

Pin and baste together.

Turn the collar over and place the remaining (uninterfaced) collar stand piece on top with right sides together. Align with the attched collar stand piece. Pin and stitch together, beginning and ending at the folded and pressed seam allowance.

Grade the seams to reduce bulk and clip the curves so they don’t pull and will sit nicely once turned.

Turn the collar stand with right sides out and press.

Pin the outer interfaced collar stand to the neckline of your garment. Line up the center back and front yoke notches as well as the edges of the collar stand with the edges of the placket.

Grade seams and clip curves if necessary.

Press the seam allowance towards the collar.

Bring the unattached collar stand edge to meet the seam on the neckline and pin in place from the right side.

This will allow you to align your stitches in the next step and keep them even.

Edge stitch to close the collar.
