Discover Tectoco’s special Sashiko-ori designs blend Japanese folk-art with modern innovation.

Created through collaboration with Kenichi Oba of Sanwa Orimono, these patterns re-imagine traditional Sashiko techniques.

Unlike manual stitching, Sashiko-ori weaves patterns into fabric on a vintage loom. Resulting in incredibly intricate designs that also mimic hand-embroidered textures.

No one other than Mr Oba who can do this technique.⁣ ⁣ The room-sized weaving machine employs “Mongami” cardboard guides for each weft thread pass. Tectoco’s intricate design uses 912 Mongami (compared to the usual 480), 2460 warp threads, and 306 weft threads.

It takes about an hour to weave one meter and achieve the perfect texture.⁣ ⁣

Tectoco’s design infuses a “new retro” essence inspired by nature – think forests, flowers, and even hidden fairies.

Each pattern is a testament to Mr. Oba’s craftsmanship, a nod to the past woven into contemporary fabrics.
