'Hanaguma Black XS' is a lovely drapey polyester with a beautiful sheen. It forms part of the Balance Collection by Mannine.
Hanaguma translates to Coati (or directly as ‘Nose Bear’) in English. A member of the raccoon family native to South America, Central America and the southern parts of North America. Hanaguma use their long nose to dig for grubs, they have strong limbs for climbing and a reputation for intelligence!
This fabric would make a stunning blouse, flowy dress or a really fun lining for a coat.
With the concept of wanting people to have fun with wearing her prints, textile designer Manri Kishimoto, debuted the playful spirited Mannine brand in 2014/15 AW. She aims to design fabric and clothing that people will feel good in, so much so that they will want to take them on their holidays and adventures.
Designer Manri on the inspiration for the Balance Collection:
‘There are many different ways of thinking in the world.
The book ‘Metamorphosis’ by Franz Kafka was recommended reading when I was a student. When I picked it up again after all these years, I felt the same shock as the very first time.
‘awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect’
Somehow, this work makes me feel empathy and has become a favourite.
Another day, my eyes landed on the words of Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe.
‘He who enjoys doing and enjoys what he has done is happy’
Those words were so strong I felt them propel me forward.
Though they are contrasting thoughts, both are mindful.
That is, balance is important.’
